About Red String

A psychological horror in terms of perceptions built in hatred, with heavy themes of xenophobia. The player takes the role of a character who with misguided perception loses grip of reality and drowns deeper in dark delusion in trying to reach the light by being sacred. Will the player somehow redeem our main character? Or will she never return to reality.

Synopsis:

It is believed that two realms exist: The human realm is a place where mortals reside and the Yokai realm, a world inhabited by supernatural beings and spiritual entities that brought fear to the human world.  They often passed through the barrier that is set between the two realms and their shapeshifting abilities helped them to blend in with the human society as they preyed on their target.  A Yokai’s nature ranges from being benevolent to malevolent which can reach to draining a human’s life force.

In a small town in Shizuoka, Japan, there lived a woman named Anko, a shrine priestess that follows the Shinto religion. People in the town knew her as an eccentric girl who muttered sacred nothings beneath her breath as she passed by. Despite this, she is well-loved as a kind and gentle girl. After all, she was the sacred shrine maiden who dutifully ensured that their town is continually blessed by the Gods. Her unwavering faith shaped the way she saw the world, blurring the line between devotion and reality.

Anko has always seen yokai around her in her daily life, skilfully worming their way into their idyllic town. The yokai never did anything to hurt the townspeople, so Anko just let them be. However, it does not change the fact that everytime she sees one, she cannot help but grimace. The sight of their otherworldly appearance, the sounds they make, the smells, the way they walk and run, and the fact that no one else sees them is what irks Anko the most.

No matter how virtuous or how vile the yokai inherently were, these scum were never meant to belong in the human world. Surely if anyone else saw through their disguises, they would share the same sentiments Anko did, right? Her parents taught her better than to mingle in with the yokai. She intends to do as told, long after they have both passed.

The New Years’ festival drew near, and Anko knew she had much to do. She should have been able to focus on her preparations… had it not been for three pesky yokai who kept trailing her and tormenting her in her daily life. The yokai had never bothered her prior to this. She needs to get to the bottom of this and hopefully… put an end to this madness.
